Proud to be Mallow - Page 3
Page 3 of 3 of Proud to be Mallow. On this page, Mallow encourages people to be more like him and embrace the things that make you you. As he shouts, 'Never be afraid to be true to yourself!', he is surrounded by a series of other Poison-type Pokémon, and the LGBTQ+ Ally flag drapes down behind him. On the edge of the picture, Jinji the Gengar makes a cameo appearance, holding his own demisexual flag.

Comic Description & Plot Outline

“It’s not easy being a Garbodor. Especially one as gross as I am… but I wouldn’t change a thing!”

Several years ago, I thought of an idea to write a comic in which I monologue about first the disadvantages and difficulties of being a Garbodor before pivoting the conversation to the good parts and concluding that overall, I’m happy to be who I am. Finally, earlier this year, I had time to write a full script for the monologue. After showing the script to my good friend Kumada Panda, she graciously agreed to do the artwork, turning my idea into a reality. During the planning process, however, we realised that the messages of self-love and being true to yourself are also themes commonly associated with the Pride movement – and since I’ve always believed in the peaceful coexistence of all humans (and all Pokémon!), what better way than to use this story as a special Pride Month celebration? Along with the LGBTQ+ Ally flag shown in the ending, my good friend Jinji the Gengar also put in a cameo in the final frame, adding his own touch of representation as a demisexual.

Peace and love to everyone!
